The Hare and
Hounds
The Village Of West End
Incorporating Donkeytown
One of the few really old villages in the
country not to get mentioned in the
Doomsday book, West End derives its
name from its location to the west of
Chobham. It has been suggested that, had
Chobham been on a hill, the name would
have been slightly different, but history
only tells us so much. Until the end of the
century before last, the village children
had to walk to school in Chobham, a fact
that, seeing the four-wheel-drive run to
Benner Lane now, makes quite astonishing.
Clearly a hardier breed of child in those
days!

The Rec is used, among others, by the West End Cricket Club whose site you can access from
this link. I forgot to thank them on the appropriate page for the map of the village, which I
nicked from their site, so thanks, guys. The building at the top is Tringham Hall, which is used
for all sorts of vital functions relating to the smooth running of the community.

The more eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that the game taking place is, in fact,
football. I do not know who was playing, but I wish both sides well.
The villages of England are
renowned for their beautiful
churches; however, I thought it
would be dishonest to use one of
those, so this is a picture of ours.

Also shown is the war memorial,
which was having its annual spruce-
up for Remembrance day.
